Dr. Gary Peter Jolly - We'll see you later friend

Gary always was an early morning kind of a guy, as a good friend reminded us earlier. And so at 6 a.m. this morning, he breathed his last breath here and went on to the next existence. I keep having this image today of him saying, "Hi everyone. Gosh, if I had known it would be like this I wouldn't have waited so long to get up here!"

Gary was a wonderful advocate for his profession, his patients, the students and residents he trained. He deeply loved his wife and his four children. He treasured his close friends and enriched our lives with humor, loyalty and great homecooked Italian food.

A memorial service is being planned in Connecticut. There will be no funeral or wake, at his request.

Semper fortis, friend. Semper fortis.

Kathy,

I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your dear friend.  I spent a month at the Yale/New Haven program during externships about 10 years ago and really enjoyed the few days I spent with him.  He will be missed by our profession.

This man is a great Icon to the profession and his patients.  With each interaction I had with this man, I learned to look for something new.  He had a keen eye for reason and causation; always looking for answers to questions we though we had we had pretty good answers to.  I have learned to look at pathology differently because of his teachings.  He will be missed.  Truly humble and compassionate soul.  I knew he was ill for sometime.  I was looking forward seeing him speak at the ACFAS this year.  I am certain the College will be doing something in his memory.
