Conference Re-cap

Plastic Surgeons, Orthopedic Surgeons, Podiatrists and Researchers Participate in the First PRESENT Future of Regenerative Medicine Conference that Took Place May 19-21, 2017 at the Teaneck Marriott at Glenpointe, Teaneck, New Jersey

PRESENT e-Learning Systems, with a strategic alliance with the International Perinatal Stem Cell Society had its inaugural Regenerative Medicine conference this past weekend. Plastic surgeons, Orthopedic surgeons, Podiatrists and Researchers from 21 states and 14 countries, gathered in Teaneck, NJ to learn from the industry leaders working in the exciting field of regenerative medicine. Regenerative medicine, also known as cellular therapy, is defined as "the process of replacing or regenerating human cells, tissues or organs and applying them therapeutically to restore or establish normal function or structure". Our Conference Chairman, Curtis L Cetrulo, Jr, MD, Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Harvard Medical School, Director of the Vascularized Composite Tissue Allotransplantation Lab and Attending Surgeon at Massachusetts General Hospital, along with Co-chairs Anthony Atala, MD, Director, Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine, H. Boyce Professor and Chair of Urology, Wake Forest School of Medicine Professor; Sheldon S Lin, MD, Chief of Foot & Ankle Division and Associate Professor of the Department of Orthopedics at Rutgers-New Jersey Medical School and Adam W Anz, MD, an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist, along with their faculty covered a broad range of topics. These topics, focusing on current concepts, emerging trends and treatment applications made this Congress the first of its kind to bring most aspects of regenerative medicine to one conference. The topics also included a great variety of promising developing uses for regenerative cellular therapies such as FDA-approved wound care therapeutics to hematology to orthopedics to urology to neurology and biomaterials. Exciting work was shown in the development of customized replacement organs and structures, including the human trachea, bladder and ureters. Wound care still leads this nascent field in FDA-approved therapeutic uses, but it's clear from the presentations and posters that every medical specialty will be using regenerative medicine techniques in the near future. Our attendees were also exposed in the exhibit hall, by our Industry colleagues, to a broad spectrum of valuable products derived from perinatal tissues, compression, offloading, cord blood, skin care, cleanroom alternatives, low intensity pulse ultrasound, pathology, bone marrow and platelet-rich plasma.
