Desert Foot 2017 Limb Salvage Conference Brings Together Five Groups

The Desert Foot 2017 Multi-Disciplinary Limb Salvage Conference brought together five groups involved with the care and preservation of the lower extremity this year. The Arizona Podiatric Medical Association, Indian Health Service, Veterans Administration, VA Podiatric Residency Directors, and the Department of Defense all converged on Phoenix, Arizona for four days of cutting edge lectures, 22 hands-on workshops, and an abundance of industry events. Conference Chairman Robert Frykberg, DPM, MPH, and Co-Chairs Charles Andersen, MD and Matthew Garoufalis, DPM, CWS led an esteemed faculty of 50 clinicians and researchers, educating over 500 clinicians from around the country. Michael DelVacchio of 3M was honored by PRESENT Co-Founder Michael Shore, DPM as the Grand Sponsor of PRESENT Education for 2017. The winners of the Desert Foot 2017 Abstract/Poster Competition were for the Non-Resident Category: Haywan Chiu, DPM for his study, “The Effect of Calcified Digital Arteries Identified in Foot X-rays on Limb Salvage in a Veteran Population” and in the Resident Category: Justin Goldsmith, DPM for his study, “The Application of Dehydrated Human Amnion Chorion Membrane (dHACM) Allografts to Expedite Healing with Six Major Types of Refractory Non-healing Wounds”. Next year’s Desert Foot Conference will take place November 7-10, 2018 at the Sheraton Grand Phoenix, Phoenix, AZ.
