Surgical treatment for retrocalcaneal bursitis removes inflamed soft tissues between the calcaneus and Achilles tendon. Ultrasound can help as a diagnostic modality in making the diagnosis. It has also become popular in assisting in surgery, which can provide information without a large incision or the use of fluoroscopy. Ultrasound can play an important role during retrocalcaneal bursectomy. This paper reports an innovative ultrasound-guided minimally invasive method to treat retrocalcaneal bursitis.
