This live webinar will focus on the “keys to success” for physicians and other qualified healthcare professionals (QHPs) using near-infrared spectroscopy imaging as part of their wound/ulcer management “toolbox”. Dr. Jonathan Arnold will present a clinical case to demonstrate how this emerging technology positively impacts physicians’/QHPs’ clinical decision making. Kathleen Schaum will discuss the importance of correctly reporting the new Category III codes assigned to near-infrared spectroscopy imaging. Dr. Arnold will conclude by providing some documentation tips to support the medical necessity of near-infrared spectroscopy imaging and discuss the importance of educating payers as to why this emerging technology should be covered for patients with wounds/ulcers.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Understand the clinical value of near-infrared spectroscopy imaging in an active wound care clinic and learn how it can be used to assist clinical decision making.
  2. Discuss the importance of Category III code assignments to emerging technologies such as near-infrared spectroscopy imaging.
  3. Describe how hospital owned outpatient wound/ulcer management provider-based departments and physicians/QHPs should report the appropriate Category III codes.
  4. Review the documentation necessary to support the use of emerging technologies and to educate payers.
